The FTSE 100 fell 0.60% as of 03:21 ET (07:21 GMT). Germany's DAX lost 0.82% and France's CAC 40 fell 0.90%. Sterling slipped 0.15% to $1.3203.

Miners led losses, with Antofagasta down 2.1%, followed by Anglo American, Rio Tinto, and Fresnillo, down 1.8%-1.4%. Silver fell 1.5%, LME aluminium 0.6% and nickel 0.63%, while copper was flat.

Brent futures rose 3.7% to $103.89 a barrel and WTI gained 3.2% to $91.25. Gold futures added 0.22% to $4,159 an ounce; spot gold rose 0.37% to $4,126.52.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on social media platform X that U.S. losses were "far higher" than disclosed, claiming 81 US aircraft downed versus 42 cited by the Congressional Research Service in May. He gave no evidence.

Strait of Hormuz transits fell to a two-month low, Kpler said, with seven vessels on Tuesday and 10 on Wednesday, versus more than 20 on Sunday and Monday.

Crude flows were at least 10.1 million barrels a day, 74% of pre-war levels. UKMTO said a tanker was hit by projectiles off Qatar on Wednesday.

Iran's IRGC Navy deputy political commander Ali Mohammadi told Fars, "The market also understands that you are lying." A White House official told Al Jazeera the strait was open, with "dozens of millions of barrels of oil" escorted out daily, at odds with Kpler's data.

U.S. President Donald Trump told a campaign rally in San Antonio, Texas that "the deal isn't really something that I want to do."

NBC reported indirect talks in New York, with Washington rejecting an Iranian proposal to reopen the strait in exchange for sanctions relief. The Atlantic said Trump sought strike options before the Nov. 3 midterms.

U.S. 10-year yields rose to 5.329%, near a 52-week high of 5.366%, while UK 30-year gilt yields climbed to 6.018%, near their 6.036% peak.

ING's Michiel Tukker said the Treasury yield passing 5% lifted U.S. volatility, "a key driver behind the moves in euro rate volatility," and expects it "to remain elevated for the coming months, at least."

Tesco raised the lower end of its full-year profit forecast after first-half operating profit rose 6.5% and lifted its share buyback to £950 million.

Imperial Brands reaffirmed its full-year outlook and announced a new £1.5 billion buyback as growth in next-generation products offset weaker cigarette sales.

Unite Group reported a 4% quarterly decline in the value of its main student accommodation fund and expects to sell £300 million to £400 million of assets this year.
