Amazon has eliminated approximately 1,000 roles across several teams, including its Stores business, customer service, marketplace support, and retail engineering operations.
Business Insider reported that employees received emails on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, stating that their roles had been eliminated.
An Amazon spokesperson told the publication that "a small number" of positions, mainly in the Stores business, had been removed that day.
Messages reviewed by the publication from an internal Slack channel with almost 37,000 members indicated that employees in India and the UK were among those affected.
Workers asked questions about severance, medical leave, internal vacancies, and whether more notifications were expected.
"We're always looking at our team structures to ensure we're best set up to move fast as we innovate for customers. We've adjusted parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities. As part of these changes, we've made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we're committed to supporting affected employees through their transition", a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Employees also raised questions about whether the reductions might affect Mexico and other European markets.
Some asked whether moving to an external role during the 90-day notification period would affect their eligibility for severance.
The company has also approached former employees, including people affected by earlier cuts, about vacancies in Amazon Web Services and its artificial intelligence businesses.
The latest reductions follow two rounds of job losses totalling approximately 30,000 roles, announced in October 2025 and January 2026.
Since late 2022, Amazon has eliminated more than 57,000 corporate positions, including 16,000 roles removed in January 2026.
