Despite the modest daily rise, the small-cap benchmark remains under pressure over the shorter term, falling 34.60 points or 1.03% across the past five trading sessions.
It has been a quiet start to the morning, but several small-cap companies have delivered exploration and development updates spanning high-grade gold, a new molybdenum target and progress towards a US clinical trial.
AuMEGA Metals Ltd (ASX:AAM, TSX:AUM, OTCQB:AUMMF, FRA:FRA: MA30) has returned high-grade gold results from surface exploration at its 100%-owned Intersection Project along the Cape Ray Shear Zone in southwest Newfoundland and Labrador.
The standout result was a float sample grading 100.5 g/t gold, the second-highest grade gold sample collected across AuMEGA's Newfoundland portfolio.
Two further float samples returned 23.8 g/t and 23.1 g/t gold, providing additional evidence of multiple high-grade gold occurrences within the project area.
Intersection sits at the convergence of the Cape Ray Shear Zone and Hermitage Flexure, two major gold-bearing structural corridors in Newfoundland.
The results advance the project beyond the broad gold-in-till anomalies identified in 2024 by confirming high-grade mineralisation at surface.
Additional assays remain pending and will be combined with geological, structural and geochemical data to shape the next phase of exploration.
Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M, FRA:YZ1) has identified a major undrilled molybdenum target at the Eastern Rhyolite Complex within its wholly owned Mt Turner Project in Queensland.
The company interprets the combined geological, geochemical and geophysical signature as being consistent with a Climax-style porphyry molybdenum system.
The target emerged from a review of historical datasets that highlighted a broad molybdenum-in-soil anomaly coinciding with a strong induced polarisation chargeability response and surface stockwork veining.
Historical soils outlined an annular anomaly above 30 parts per million molybdenum, while the underlying geophysical response exceeded 30 milliseconds per second.
Lightning has now completed a confirmatory soil sampling program, with 49 samples submitted for laboratory analysis.
The company considers the combination of soil geochemistry, geophysical anomalism and mineralised surface outcrop to represent a high-priority exploration target.
Noxopharm Ltd (ASX:NOX) has received feedback from the US Food and Drug Administration supporting its planned Phase II development pathway for SOF-SKN.
The regulatory feedback provides greater clarity around the company's proposed clinical development strategy and is expected to support preparations for a future Investigational New Drug application.
Noxopharm is targeting the first half of calendar 2028 for the planned Phase II trial.
The company will now incorporate the FDA guidance into its development program as it progresses SOF-SKN towards the next stage of clinical testing.
