It turns out that Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, and The View may have played a pivotal role in Sheryl Underwood‘s career trajectory.
On the subject of Oscar nominees Teyana Taylor, Jessie Buckley, and Emma Stone getting their “start” in reality TV, the co-hosts began to reflect on their own careers and how they landed where they are now.
Underwood, who has been a guest co-host on The View all week and who was a host on The Talk for 14 of its 15 seasons, revealed that she was on the game show Make Me Laugh in 1998. After a clip of her appearance was shown, Underwood credited Behar for landing her role on the CBS talk show.
“But really, I believe coming here, Joy, and doing your Comedy Corner,” she shared, referring to Behar’s segment on the ABC daytime talk show.
The comedian and republican explained that Goldberg and Shepherd, a former co-host on The View, had told Behar that she needed to feature Underwood in a Comedy Corner segment.
“And you put put me on a Comedy Corner, and I was doing republican material. And I believe that’s how I got The Talk,” she added. “I believe they saw me on this show.”
Sunny Hostin exclaimed, “Look at that, Joy!”
Ana Navarro quipped, “It was so long ago, it was back when Republicans had a sense of humor.”
Behar brought Joy’s Comedy Corner back in 2025. As for The Talk, the CBS panel show featuring Underwood, Amanda Kloots, Jerry O’Connell, Akbar Gbajabiamila and Natalie Morales ended after Season 15 in December 2024.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
