Miranda Hope has come a long way since her days of soft-swinging with Taylor Frankie Paul, but the underlying trust issues she has with MomTok’s founder still remain.

When Hope joined The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2, she was met with skepticism from the other women. Why, after the success of Season 1, did she suddenly want to be back in the MomTok mix? Hope half-jokingly reveals this season that it was for the “money,” rather than the “clout,” but when she first decided she wanted back in after years of estrangement from Taylor in light of their soft-swinging scandal, some of the women worried her intentions lay with the latter.

Now on her third season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (the show’s fourth overall), we are finally seeing a bit more of Hope — both in her witty personality and her personal life. In Season 4, Episode 1, Hope opens up about her trust issues with Taylor, which stem from their soft-swinging past.

Basically, Hope and her husband at the time, Chase McWhorter, were soft-swinging with Taylor and her husband at the time, Tate Paul, as well as one other couple who is not involved in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Things took a messy turn when McWhorter told Taylor he had feelings for her, but she turned him down. Instead, Taylor had an affair with the third husband involved, leading to her divorce from Tate and her decision to openly out the scandal on TikTok in May 2022.

When Hope found out at the start of Season 4 that Taylor and McWhorter had gone on a date at the end of Season 3, she broke down in tears. While Taylor shut down any possibility of a romance with McWhorter, Hope told DECIDER that it’s “hard to say” whether or not she’ll ever fully trust Taylor.

“Sometimes I think yes, and then other times I think no,” she told us over Zoom. “Not so much now, but I think for a very long time there was an underlying fear of, ‘It’s hard to be vulnerable with you,’ whether it be the situation with Chase or just opening up about something in my personal life, because if we end up having some sort of disagreement, there’s that fear of, ‘Is this going to end up online?’ I think because of that, for a long time, it made me really weary.”

Hope, however, noted that she and Taylor have made a lot of progress in their friendship since the soft-swinging scandal, despite the “underlying fears” that sometimes get triggered.

“I feel like we’ve built a good enough foundation in our friendship where I don’t feel that way so much anymore,” she said. “I think there are definitely still some underlying fears and stuff that will come up occasionally. But overall, I feel like we’ve been able to work through a lot.”

While Taylor and Hope have been able to rebuild their friendship, Hope promised that, to quote the great Taylor Swift, she and McWhorter are never, ever getting back together. The @mormonwivesreport fan page on Instagram posted a story from The Sun last week claiming the estranged couple is still married, under which McWhorter commented, “Streets are saying it’s bc she wants to try again.”

Hope—who has lived separately from McWhorter for three years—told DECIDER that it’s been “a long process,” but she’s been waiting on information to finish filling out the divorce paperwork, which “should be done soon.” As for whether there’s a chance of them reconciling their marriage, Hope said, “It’ll never happen for us. But I do wish him the best.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 4 is currently streaming on Hulu.
