Game of Thrones fans may have been thrilled to learn Kit Harington and Sophie Turner would be reuniting for the upcoming horror film, The Dreadful. But their new roles will look quite different from the siblings they played on the hit HBO show. In fact, it looks like they’ll be playing lovers.
Turner and Harington have openly complained about their “vile” experience playing each other’s romantic interests in the new movie. But Entertainment Tonight released new footage from set that shows just how much Turner and Harrington struggled to film kissing scenes together for the new film.
In the video, Harington grips Turner’s face and goes in for a passionate kiss. Turner reciprocates until the director yells cut, prompting both of them to both pull away and simultaneously pretend to gag and throw up.
Turner previously opened up about the experience during a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
“So, I sent the script to Kit, and he kind of sent me a message back going like, ‘Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really fucking weird, Soph,’” Turner said. “And I was like, ‘What is he talking about?’ Then I was reading [the script] and it’s like, ‘Kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex…’ And then I’m like, ‘Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.’”
She continued, “We put it out of our minds, and then we get on set and it’s the first kissing scene, and we are both retching. Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst.”
The Dreadful is set in the 15th century when Anne (Turner) and her mother-in-law are visited by a man from their past, who triggers a chain of events that upends Anne’s life. Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O’Fuarain and Jonathan Howard also star.
Harington also admitted to E! News that he felt “weird” agreeing to join the movie. “She was the one that sent that movie to me and somehow didn’t see what I saw in it. I was like, ‘These guys, these are lovers, right?’ I felt very odd about that,” he admitted. “But it was a good chance to be with her again and work together… It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she’s about a foot taller than me. But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact.”
This marks the first time Turner and Harington have reunited since starring in Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019.
The Dreadful premieres in theaters Feb. 20.
