Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Pete Alonso is already making a big positive impression in Orioles camp, bringing a veteran presence and extra fire, Orioles people say.

Orioles owner David Rubenstein likened their Alonso acquisition to the all-time deal for Frank Robinson 60 years ago, and while that might be an exaggeration, Pete’s being seen as the key to the O’s’ potential resurgence.

The Mets never were going to go more than three years for Alonso.

Mets honcho David Stearns’ suggestion at the GM meetings that he was “all in” for Alonso apparently reflected their expectation no one else might beat three years, either.
