Layla Taylor is opening up about her eating disorder and use of “addictive” weight loss drugs.
In the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 4 finale, Taylor talks to Miranda Hope and Jessi Draper about her struggles with body image, a conversation that’s brought on after she’s rejected from Ford modeling agency. Taylor becomes emotional as she reveals she only weighs 99 pounds, and that she’s “exhausted” from not eating and her “body hurts.”
The MomTok content creator also shares that, for the past year, she has been taking GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, which she started using to get rid of some “stubborn weight” she couldn’t shed. In her confessional, Taylor talks about how easy it is to become addicted to such drugs, and how “hard it is to get off” of them.
When DECIDER caught up with Taylor via Zoom, she said she started to notice that things had gotten unhealthy when she was at “a weight that wasn’t good” for her body. “I’m 5’9”, so anything under a certain amount is not healthy for your body,” she said. “I feel like I just was starting to notice the physical effects that come from being malnourished and underweight.”
According to Taylor, her struggles with an eating disorder date back long before her time in the spotlight — and well before she started using GLP-1s.
“I’ve been struggling with an eating disorder since I was in high school, so this is a lot bigger than just me right now, in the moment, struggling with it,” she said. “I didn’t start using those, honestly, until recently. It’s a lot deeper for me than just the GLPs.”
“I’m not on them anymore,” Taylor continued. “But just because the GLPs went away, it doesn’t mean my eating disorder went away. So, it’s still something I’m actively working on.”
Taylor, who shares two sons with her ex-husband, also opened up to DECIDER about her breakup with Mason McWhorter, whom she began dating in Season 3. “You’ll have to wait and see the reasoning behind why he ended things,” Taylor told us, hinting at what’s to come in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 5. While she teased “bad blood” between the two in a Taylor Frankie Paul-coded TikTok video shortly after the breakup last month, Taylor said that she and McWhorter have since come “to a more cordial place.” Though, as mentioned before, she promised that fans will eventually understand why she reacted the way she did.
“I still feel like my feelings are valid and why I felt certain ways. And again, you guys will see that in the future,” she said. “But yeah, I think ultimately, when it comes down to it, I’ll always have a place in my heart for Mason, and he’s a really good person.”
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 4 is currently streaming on Hulu.
