What Cal Ritchie can learn from Brayden Schenn could have a massive Islanders payoff

inside the islanders What Cal Ritchie can learn from Brayden Schenn could have a massive Islanders payoff By Ethan Sears Published March 12, 2026, 6:40 a.m. ET Brayden Schenn (middle) converses with Islanders teammates during a game against the Blues on March 10, 2026. NHLI via Getty Images Brayden Schenn can rattle off the list of Flyers who helped him out as a young player in the league: Danny Brière, Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, Jakub Voracek, Wayne Simmonds, Kimmo Timonen.

He tried to pay it forward with the Blues, letting Jake Neighbours and Jimmy Snuggerud live with him, helping out others as they came.

“You don’t have to be in their ear every day, but if they ask you questions, you’re always there to listen,” Schenn said. “Always there for advice, because I feel like people did that for me. I don’t think that job stops now.”

On the contrary, the Islanders see that as part of the job description for their newest acquisition. They want Schenn, who wore the “C” with the Blues, acting as a mentor in the dressing room, specifically for Cal Ritchie.
