Australian software giant Atlassian has announced it is laying off around 10% of its workforce, or roughly 1,600 positions, as part of a restructuring plan to push into artificial intelligence and enterprise sales.

Shares of the company rose more than 4% in extended trading on the Nasdaq.

Read moreThe company said it expects to incur total pre-tax charges between US$225 million and US$236 million related to the layoffs and office space reductions.

The move comes as the company seeks to “rebalance” its resources to focus on the “future of teamwork in the AI era,” according to a regulatory filing.
