NFL Week 5 confidence pool rankings: Dolphins will sink against Joe Burrow’s explosive attack

AP Photo/Tanner Pearson Every week of the NFL season has a stumper or two, and last week, we overestimated the Bills against New England.

They were the third-most selected team in survivor pools, but alas, Josh Allen can even be human under pressure.

The Ravens, who closed as the week’s biggest favorite (-11.5), delivered as the most popular confidence pick at the cost of Lamar Jackson, whose uncertain Week 5 status further makes for another murky slate.

Favorites went 8-8 last week while three teams remain undefeated (Chiefs, 49ers and Vikings) and five still winless (Dolphins, Buccaneers, Titans, Chargers and Texans).

An anemic offense with just 46 points and four touchdowns through four games: it’s just about what we expected from Miami. Joe Burrow will have his way.

There was only so much the undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels could do, and while there was some promise, the learning curve proved steep. The Cowboys’ explosive offense will flush the Bucs out.

Ah, the AFC South. Two teams playing for their first win: I’m going with the one that showed life in last week’s shootout with Dallas.

No, seriously?

Both teams are rebounding from frustrating defeats. As bad as the Lions’ defense is, Dan Campbell will have a response against a team he’s 2-0 against.

As of this writing, Lamar Jackson has an “outside chance” to play, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. After the scoring bonanza we just watched the Falcons conduct on “Monday Night Football,” ride the hot hand.

Tensions are ostensibly high in Pittsburgh. Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy are going to get on the same page one of these days, right?

Jameis Winston is surviving on a wing and a prayer; he is ranked No. 28 in QBR. Jayden Daniels is on track to return on Sunday at home. That’s enough for me.

The Eagles have a second half problem. With a handful of key injuries and more questionably aggressive decisions by Nick Sirianni, the Jaguars are the safe play.

USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect 6 points: Raiders over Patriots I’m still not sold on New England. The Raiders took the Chiefs to the wire as this offense is clicking with Kirk Cousins and Klint Kubiak.

Tyson Bagent was underwhelming against the underwhelming Jets. Although the Packers aren’t pretty, they can grind this one out.

That’s back-to-back weeks the Chargers have lost a one-possession game. They must march on in their gauntlet of a schedule, and the Broncos’ capricious offense is where I’m giving them reward for their efforts.

The Browns are 3-1. That’s not a typo. The Jets continue to get in their own way, failing to sustain drives and taking costly penalties.

Brock Purdy has leaped up the MVP oddsboard, his offensive line is impenetrable and the defense is shutting down elite offenses when it matters. This is the most complete team on the planet.

It’s a coin flip. At the end of the day the Josh Allen factor will prevail, especially after a devastating loss. The Rams are not as consistent as we imagined them.

LAST WEEK: 11-5, 100/136 points
