Boone has generally tried to project steadiness and lack of panic in his nine years managing the Yankees. But if desperate times actually call for desperate actions, then Boone should manage desperately. He should manage like his job is on the line, whether Hal Steinbrenner or Brian Cashman would actually push that lever or not if the Yankees lose yet another postseason series, in part because of the type of sloppiness that historically has reflected poorly on a manager.
