122,000 cases of popular Gatorade flavors recalled nationwide by the FDA

Over 122,000 cases of Gatorade have been recalled across 37 states after the company found undeclared dyes.

The Gatorade recall affects 122,021 cases of 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Orange Zero, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Parent company — PepsiCo — voluntarily recalled the lot on Sept. 25 after finding the flavors contain the undeclared dyes — Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6.

Over 122,000 cases of Gatorade have been recalled after the company found undeclared dyes Color additives — which are used in food, drugs, cosmetics and some medical devices — must be approved by the FDA before they can be used. Additionally, they must comply with “the approved uses, specifications, and restrictions,” according to the agency.

The FDA classified the action as a Class II recall — which means the probability for serious adverse health consequences from the soda is “mid-level.”

If you have one of the recalled products, do not drink it as it — especially if you have a sensitivity or allergy to aspirin or yellow food dyes. This can occasionally trigger mild rashes or allergic-type asthma.

Shoppers should bring the bottles back to the retailer, where they will likely get a full refund. If you cannot get a refund, it’s best to throw the products away in a sealed trash container so people or animals cannot access it.
