Josh Allen under fire for embarrassing flop — and play that cost Bills the game

Make New York Post a Preferred Source The Josh Allen MVP campaign hit its first speed bump on Sunday.

While everyone was anointing the Bills’ star quarterback as the league’s MVP after two impressive weeks in which he put up massive numbers, Allen did not put his best foot forward in Week 4’s 29-26 loss to the Patriots.

Former Patriots running back Damian Harris called Allen out for the turnover problem rearing its ugly head once again, while others pointed out that Allen attempted to flop his way to a penalty as the Bills got desperate trying to score a comeback win.

IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Allen had one of the most egregious attempts at selling out for a call on Sunday, flopping when he was nudged ever so slightly by Dre’Mont Jones with 13:26 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Allen’s arms went flailing in the air in an attempt to pick up an unnecessary roughness penalty, which the referees did not buy.

Social media was filled with sarcastic comments about how hard the hit on Allen was.

The day got even more embarrassing for the star quarterback.

Later in the game, down three points with 1:14 remaining in the fourth quarter, Allen dropped back to pass, spun out of a sack, and forced the ball into double coverage looking for Joshua Palmer, but defensive back Craig Woodson intercepted it.

Allen’s terrible throw cost them a golden opportunity to kick a field goal on a second-and-six from their own 40-yard line, right on the edge of Tyler Bass’ range.

“Josh Allen wins them a ton of football games. He also loses them a couple of football games that they should won [sic],” Harris said on the CBS postgame. “We saw this in the division round against the Broncos last year. The turnovers that ultimately cost them a chance to win that game and move on in the playoffs. Now we’re still seeing the past two games, especially, the turnovers start to creep up for Josh Allen again.”

Allen had zero turnovers through two weeks but now has four in his last two weeks (three interceptions and one fumble).

“We know when Josh Allen starts to turn the football over, this Buffalo Bills offense doesn’t work, and this team doesn’t win because this team is built to play from ahead,” Harris said.

Allen had four turnovers, including one unacceptable fumble before halftime in the Bills’ 33-30 loss to the Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round last year.

Barnes Turnovers have been the kryptonite holding Allen back from Super Bowl wins and appearances so far in his NFL career.

His worst turnover season was 2023 when he had 18 interceptions and four fumbles lost.

The Bills will need to turn it around quickly as they face the Super Bowl favorite Rams next week.
