The surprising change Joe Burrow is asking for in Bengals offense

Make New York Post a Preferred Source The Bengals fell to 2-2 on Sunday with a 22-17 loss to the Jaguars, marking their second consecutive loss after opening the season 2-0.

And quarterback Joe Burrow has an interesting request for the Bengals’ offense.

Burrow dropped back to pass 58 times in the loss and threw the ball 54 times, the third-most in his career, but doesn’t see a need for more balance in the offense, and actually wants to be doing it more.

USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect “Let’s throw it more,” Burrow said postgame on Sunday. “I know we’re great at it. I know that that’s what I do best, and we’re pass protecting really well right now. Obviously we’d like to get more out of the run game, but I know we’ll make it work…I’m always gonna want the ball in my hands in those spots, and there will be games where we run the heck out of the ball, and we’re going to get under center and run it, and there will be games where we need to drop back 60 times, and we’ll go and make it happen.”

Though generally strong this year, Burrow continued a somewhat worrisome trend, turning over the ball two more times with two interceptions.

One of Burrow’s best traits through his career has been a lack of turnover-worthy plays, and now they seem to be piling up week to week after his pick-six against Tampa Bay and a fumble against Pittsburgh. Now his turnover-worthy play rate has grown to the highest since his rookie season.

Burrow ended the game Sunday going 39 of 54 for 428 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions as star receiver Ja’Marr Chase left the game in the second half with a concussion.

The Bengals play the winless Dolphins next Sunday in Miami.
