The second season of “Marshals” kicked off Sunday with a brutal onscreen death.
Dolly Weaver, a major character on the “Yellowstone” spinoff played by Ellie Jameson, was killed after the car she was in rolled down the side of a mountain.
When the “All Hat No Cattle” episode kicked off, Dolly was with Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, at East Camp, where they were ambushed by her dad Tom Weaver’s attorney and two more men.
Tom, notably, wanted Dutton’s land — and was willing to kill the U.S. Marshal and son Tate Dutton (Brecken Merrill), whom he had kidnapped, for it.
Before taking down the trio at East Camp, Kayce said, “Tom wins. East Camp’s his. Just give me my son back.”

He confronted Dolly, his romantic interest on the show, and questioned whether she knew about the kidnapping all along.
She insisted she didn’t and directed Kayce to Wyoming where Tate was being held.
When Kayce called Tom (Chris Mulkey) ahead of the 300-mile drive and agreed to sign the land over, he threatened, “If you try anything, I will paint the walls with your daughter.”
Kayce was, however, ambushed by dozens of armed men when he arrived at the Wyoming property.
During the shootout, which ultimately resulted in Kayce rescuing his child, Dolly turned on Kayce and joined her father’s side.
Tom subsequently attempted to escape in his truck with her in the car.
Kayce stopped Tom and offered him a chance to surrender, only for the rancher’s vehicle to roll down a mountain in his attempt to get away.
After Dolly died in the crash, Kayce told Tom, “Living with Dolly’s death is the punishment you deserve.”
He added, later in the episode, that Dolly’s “only sin was not being able to break away from family.”
Kayce and Tate ended the episode by returning to East Camp.
New episodes of “Marshals” premiere Sundays on CBS at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Paramount+.
