New York Yankees Jon Heyman Yankees hope to bring back pitching coach Matt Blake with contract decision looming By Jon Heyman Published Oct. 3, 2026, 5:43 p.m. ET New York Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake during practice at Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees Spring Training home in Tampa, Florida. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The Yankees want to retain pitching coach Matt Blake, whose contract is up after 2026.
His timing couldn’t be better. The Yankees easily led MLB with a 3.23 team ERA.
Blake started as an unpaid “bird dog” scout for the Yankees while he was the pitching coach at Lincoln-Sudbury High outside Boston. But Blake now has a chance to join the exclusive ranks as a $1 million-a-year coach (or get close).
