Barack and Michelle previously faced divorce speculation after Barack attended former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration without Michelle by his side last year.
Page Six reported at the time that Michelle’s decision to skip the inauguration was “deliberate,” with a source telling us she was on an “extended holiday vacation” in Hawaii.
The duo addressed the rumors together during a July 2025 episode of Michelle and her brother Craig Robinson’s podcast, “IMO.”
Michelle teased that they had a “very, very, very special guest” joining the episode, prompting Robinson, 64, to jokingly ask, “Wait, you guys like each other?” before sighing about the “rumor mill.”
Barack then cracked a joke of his own, saying, “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.”
The former first lady quickly told him not to “start” before adding that it was simply “nice to [be] in the same room,” joking that when they aren’t together, “folks think we’re divorced.”
More recently, Michelle explained to People why her marriage to Barack has endured despite “ups and downs.”
“However hard it’s been, the ups and the downs, he’s got me,” she said in part. “He’s like, ‘Try new things. Go leap.’ I can do a lot of these things because I know if I slip or fall or trip, he’s got me.”
Barack and Michelle married on Oct. 3, 1992, and share two daughters, Malia, 28, and Sasha, 25.
