Making a hit record wasn't all harmony for Miranda Lambert and Ella Langley.

The country superstar revealed that she and the "Choosin' Texas" singer butted heads while working together — and Lambert said the disagreements were actually a sign they were on the right track.

"If we don't fight by the end of this, we probably didn't do it right," Lambert recalled telling Langley during an appearance on The New York Times' "Popcast."

The candid admission came while Lambert discussed the emotional process of creating a record with the rising country star.

"There was hard parts of it. Creating a record is not — I mean, it's a long journey, you know what I mean? And it's a lot of emotions," Lambert said.

"We did a lot," she admitted when asked if she and Langley were "butting heads" during the process. "And I think that's important because we needed to."

Lambert, who has built a career on songs about heartbreak, independence and life in the country, said she welcomed disagreements as long as they were constructive.

When asked if she enjoys a good argument, the country star didn't hesitate.

The country star was also asked if she ever let Langley win one of their disagreements. She laughed off the question.

"Yeah. I mean … it's her name. But yeah, it was a good balance, I felt like, of bouncing songs off each other, saying like, 'That's too far one way,' or 'That doesn't fit the record,' whatever it was. And I love that she trusted me with that. I really do."

"Choosin' Texas" has become a record-breaking hit for Langley.

On that track, Lambert said, there wasn't much fighting to do.

"That one is just like — it's like a piece of our DNA. So, no. It's like there's this nostalgia to it, and it's like her love for country and my love for country."

She continued, "That one, whether it was the writing of it just fell out or the production, it was just like, 'This is what it's supposed to be. Let's let it be.'"

Langley celebrated a Billboard record in September as "Choosin' Texas" reached its 23rd week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" for the longest reign at the top of the chart.

"I'm genuinely trying to find the words to explain what's going on in my brain today," Langley said in an Instagram video.

"What? I don't know. Thank you so much. Thank you for loving this song, for listening to it. I feel like … I just don't even know what to say at this point. I'm running out of hyperboles to describe how I feel, so I will just let my dog in the background show you his excitement," she continued as her dog barked.
