New York Jets Mark Cannizzaro The Jets’ Geno Smith edict that’s key to victory against the Bears By Mark Cannizzaro Published Oct. 3, 2026, 11:03 a.m. ET Jets quarterback Geno Smith (7) throws the ball against the Detroit Lions. The path to victory against the 2-1 Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field begins and ends with how well they can protect their quarterback.
If the offensive line, which has struggled in the past two games after dominating the Tennessee defensive front in the opener, can keep Smith upright, the 1-2 Jets have a legitimate chance to deliver an upset victory in Chicago.
Smith has done his part through three games, leading the NFL with a 75.5 completion percentage with four touchdowns, no interceptions and 783 yards passing.
