Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez’s tumultuous relationship timeline

Make Page Six a Preferred Source Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez had a long history of battling in the court system prior to him obtaining a temporary restraining order against her — and winning primary custody of their son, Maceo.

Their tumultuous journey began in 2010, and the former couple ultimately wed in 2013.

However, their marriage was brief, ending in separation in 2015.

The fallout of their union lasted far longer than the union itself, as they didn’t finalize their divorce until 2023 — a full eight years later.

Below, here’s everything to know about the Oscar winner’s lengthy and volatile relationship with ex-husband Martinez.

Berry and Martinez met on the Capetown, South Africa, set of their film, “Dark Tide,” back in July 2010.

The “X-Men” actress had recently split from model Gabriel Aubry after five years of dating and one child together — Nahla Aubry, whom they welcomed on March 16, 2008.

After a month together on set, Martinez and Berry began dating in August 2010 — with a source telling People at the time that they were seen packing on the PDA during an evening out, in what they called a “classic ‘I’m going to kiss you here in a dark corner’ move.”

They added, “And she was waiting to be kissed.”

In January 2012, the “Monster’s Ball” actress set the rumor mill on fire after being seen out and about with a sparkling diamond and emerald ring.

A rep for jewelry designer Gurhan confirmed to People that same month that the “Unfaithful” actor had gifted her the ring, seemingly confirming the engagement.

When asked that March if the rumors were true, Martinez himself confirmed his engagement to Berry in comments to the Miami Herald.

In November 2012, Berry proved the relationship was serious by filing a request to permanently relocate to Martinez’s native France with daughter Nahla.

The actress cited safety concerns after a pair of men who had allegedly threatened her were released from incarceration.

Martinez and Aubry came to blows over the escalating issues, with an alleged altercation taking place outside the actress’ Los Angeles home on Thanksgiving 2012.

Aubry was sought treatment at a local hospital and was booked at the Metro Detention Center for misdemeanor battery over the incident.

Aubry was later released on $20,000 bail, and prosecutors declined to file charges over the encounter. He was, however, granted an order of protection against Martinez.

E! News reported in April 2013 that the couple was expecting a child — Martinez’s first and Berry’s second — with the actress’ rep telling the outlet, “We can confirm that Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are expecting a child.”

Thought the outlet reported that Berry’s daughter Nahla would become a big sister to a little brother, the rep added, “We will not be commenting on or confirming any additional details.”

An insider told E! News at the time that the impending arrival was “a blessing,” adding, “They can’t wait to have a baby together.”

A source told E! News in July 2013 that the couple had exchanged vows in Chateau des Conde in Vallery, France.

The celebration took place just outside Paris in the Renaissance complex, with a local mayor officiating for the famous couple.

Berry and Martinez welcomed son Maceo Robert Martinez on Oct. 5, 2013.

The infant was spotted out in public for the first time in February 2014, enjoying time in a stroller with a nanny in Los Angeles.

Maceo was said to have been visiting his mother on the set of CBS’s sci-fi series “Extant.”

Split rumors emerged in early 2014, shortly after the pair’s romantic wedding in France and the birth of their son.

A source pushed back in comments to E! News at the time, saying nothing was “further from the truth” and insisting they were still in love.

“They are both working and living happily as a married couple and as parents of a newborn, which inherently means you don’t go out a lot,” the insider claimed at the time.

In January 2015, TMZ reported that Martinez seemingly pushed an airport employee with a carseat at LAX airport as photographers scrambled to get photos.

According to the outlet, “photogs got too close to the family.”

Though Martinez was named a suspect in a battery investigation, authorities opted against pursuing criminal charges.

The actress fueled further split rumors after being spotted out sans engagement ring in August 2015.

However, E! News reported that she’d lost her engagement ring during a 2014 trip to Mexico for the Acapulco Film Festival, and was wearing a gold wedding ring in its place.

Split speculation again died down after Berry was seen out with Martinez at a Halloween party in Sherman Oaks, California, in October 2015.

However, the couple confirmed the end of their marriage in a statement to Page Six later that month.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce,” they shared in a joint statement at the time.

The former couple insisted they’d “move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son,” and said they wished “each other nothing but happiness in life,” in the statement.

They concluded by asking the public to “respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period.”

The “Catwoman” actress filed for divorce on Oct. 26 citing irreconcilable differences, while Martinez filed one day later, citing the same reason.

An insider for TMZ said they faced a “personality difference.” The airport incident was said to have worsened to the situation.

In 2016, the former couple seemingly ended the matter, agreeing to share joint physical and legal custody of Maceo.

Their legal tug-of-war continued, however, and the finalized their divorce in August 2023 after eight years of battling in court over additional matters.

Documents obtained by Page Six at the time showed that Berry would be forced to pay Martinez $8,000 a month in child support for their son.

It also stipulated she was responsible for Maceo’s private school tuition as well as other expenses to be paid directly to the school, including all extracurricular activities.

She also “voluntarily” agreed to pay $55,000 toward Martinez’s attorney’s fees.

The papers also stated that Maceo’s schedule would alternate between his parents, with them sharing joint physical custody.

In May 2024, the former couple again entered court to hash out details of a new co-parenting agreement regarding therapy sessions.

According to documents obtained by Page Six, they agreed to individual and joint co-parenting therapy to “resolve disputes and conflicts between them in an effort to successfully co-parent” Maceo.

Berry’s partner Van Hunt — whom she became engaged to in 2026 following six years of dating — would also be allowed to attend.

In August 2024, however, Berry filed papers accusing Martinez of attempting to “delay” therapy by taking “the summer off” to travel and asking the court to intervene.

Berry argued that Martinez allegedly “unilaterally decided to defer co-parenting therapy altogether until September because he was traveling to France in the month of July and because his brother will be visiting him in the month of August in Los Angeles,” per documents obtained by The Post.

Just weeks later, also in August 2024, the “Die Another Day” actress requested sole custody of Maceo due to Martinez’s alleged “turbulent and detrimental behavior.”

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Berry claimed Maceo was dealing with “serious behavior and learning problems,” and that Martinez had refused to obtain a tutor for Maceo because it could interfere with his soccer schedule.

The “Gothika” star labeled her parenting “exemplary,” and called out Martinez for allegedly sharing his dating issues with their son.

Martinez disputed the allegations. Berry would later claim in a September 2024 filing that she’d spent over $200,000 attempting to “work with” her ex on Maceo’s well-being as they shared 50/50 custody.

Berry also took a swipe at Martinez over child support.

“As Olivier has advised this court, he lives off my child support and in order to be able to pay child support, I have to go to work,” she wrote, per the docs. “I do not have the luxury of taking months off.”

In October 2026, the bitter feud came to a climax, with Martinez accusing Berry of physically abusing their son and filing for sole custody of Maceo.

Martinez claimed in documents obtained by Page Six that on Sept. 26, 2026, the “Swordfish” actress allegedly put her hands around around Maceo’s neck and choked him — and that Hunt was present.

An alleged argument erupted after Berry supposedly called Maceo “stupid” over playing a game with virtual reality goggles.

Martinez further claimed that a “traumatized” Maceo allegedly begged his father to pick him up following the alleged encounter. The actor also claimed that Maceo didn’t want to return to Berry’s house.

Martinez was subsequently granted primary custody and a restraining order barring Berry from being within 100 yards of her ex-husband.

Berry was granted two days a week of court-ordered visitation and every other weekend with Maceo.

Through her attorney, Berry vehemently denied Martinez’s allegations in a strongly-worded statement calling the court filing “entirely meritless and deliberately misleading.”

“There is voluminous evidence, including numerous judicial rulings, that Olivier Martinez repeatedly violated court orders and interfered with necessary therapeutic and educational interventions to the detriment of his and Halle Berry’s minor son, Maceo — misconduct for which Mr. Martinez has already been legally sanctioned,” Marina Beck, the actress’ lawyer, said in a statement to Page Six on Oct. 1, 2026.

Beck also alleged that Berry’s ex-husband has a history of “erratic, possessive and violent behavior.”

They’re set to appear in court again on Oct. 16., 2026.
