Make California Post a Preferred Source Jim Hill is as woven into the fabric of Los Angeles sports as any of the star players or legendary coaches he’s covered.
In addition to being a daily presence on CBS as part of a career spanning more than 50 years, the veteran sports broadcaster has become an iconic figure nationally through his appearances – often playing himself – in movies and television shows including “Rocky III,” “Arli$$” and “The Game.”

Jan Kim Lim/UCLA Athletics With Hill turning 80 later this month as he moves into the twilight of his career, UCLA has announced it will honor him on the field at the Rose Bowl before the Bruins’ rivalry game against USC on Nov. 28.
“Jim Hill has become synonymous with sports in Los Angeles,” UCLA CEO and Director of Athletics Tim Harris said in a statement. “For generations of fans, Jim has been a trusted voice and presence for so many of the moments that have made sports in this city special.
“UCLA has been fortunate to have Jim tell the stories of our student-athletes, coaches and teams throughout his remarkable career. Jim is an L.A. sports legend, and there is no better place to honor him than at the Rose Bowl.”

He’s thoughtful in his line of questioning and always brings warmth and empathy in his reporting.
Hill joined CBS in 1976 and has covered nearly every major sporting event in L.A. history, including NCAA championships, Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, the Olympics and the World Cup.
Earlier this year, he celebrated 50 years on the air in Los Angeles.
A former first-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers after starring at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, Hill played seven seasons in the NFL with the Chargers, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns before going into broadcasting.
