Trump must level with the public to face down Dem fearmongering as the economy gains ground

Bonnie Cash/UPI/Shutterstock Economic statistics don’t change anyone’s vote, but the realities behind the numbers do — so a steady barrage of good reports on inflation, jobs and growth could avert the Republican bloodbath most of the media are now gleefully anticipating in November.

Just the last week has brought word that core inflation came in surprisingly lower than expected, while the first and second quarters saw more economic growth than the feds originally calculated — and jobs are growing at a steady pace.

Yes, filling up the tank still costs too much, and spot grocery prices such as beef remain painful — but core inflation hit just 3% in August, so it’s still coming down from the Bidenflation stratosphere, albeit not as fast as we’d all like.

Meanwhile, the latest federal data shows the economy accelerating, thanks to surging corporate investment and robust consumer spending.

The Commerce Department revised its GDP growth figures up from 2.1% to 2.5% for the first quarter, and 1.5% to 2.2% for the second — and preliminary signs from July and August suggest the third quarter might near 3%.

Business activity is booming at double-digit rates, driven by gross output gains that show real momentum across all stages of production — the reverse of what the “Trump’s war is killing the economy” crew insist.

It’s plain that heavy investment in AI and data centers are a big part of this — investment fueled by massive corporate borrowing, which seems to be driving up long-term bond yields, a pain for others hoping to borrow but a sign of robust long-term growth.

Best of all, this rising economy is lifting all boats: Poverty has dropped to a historic low while inflation-adjusted median household income hit a record high — all without the massive Biden-era handouts that triggered record price hikes.

None of this makes for an easy Republican campaign message: Telling people their angst is just wrong never works.

GOP candidates, and President Donald Trump on his barnstorming tour, need to show they’re looking out for the average Jane and Joe and set out how his deals with other nations and Republicans’ pro-growth, pro-jobs policies are paying off.

Admit that the big payoff isn’t obvious now, but that regular Americans will see it soon.

Give Republicans a bit more time; don’t elect the Democrats now running on all-out fear — because they’ll “save” us by once again choking off growth for real.
