Popular Mexican restaurant Dos Coyotes has closed its last Bay Area location as the chain’s footprint begins to shrink.
Dos Coyotes Border Café announced that Thursday, September 24 was the last day of operation for their location on Crow Canyon Place in San Ramon, California.
“It has been a privilege to serve this community. Thank you for every meal, every visit, and every friendly face over the years,” the restaurant wrote.
A flurry of fans mourned the location in the comments.
“My most favorite green salsa in the history of ever. Thanks for the delicious meals, going to miss you,” one fan wrote.
“Thanks for the paella burrito, great salsa and strong margaritas! So many great memories there!” another commented.
“I have probably hosted at least 10 dine-in fundraisers here. Thank you for all the love you showed our community. You will be missed!” a third chimed in.
Founded in 1991 by former Los Angeles restaurant manager Bobby Coyote, Dos Coyotes opened its first restaurant in Davis with the goal of creating “ a people’s restaurant.”
The chain serves classic Mexican-inspired dishes including tacos, burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas.
The company still operates 10 locations in California: two in Sacramento, two in Davis, two in Folsom and one each in Citrus Height, Elk Grove and Roseville. It also has a location inside the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, California.
The news follows the closure of several other Dos Coyotes locations in recent years, including three in Sacramento and one in Turlock.
Other Mexican eateries have been struggling to keep their doors open as well.
In June, Tex-Mex chain On The Border ceased all operations after filing for bankruptcy and abruptly shuttered 60 locations across the country.
.Another California-based chain, Chevy’s Fresh Mex, has shrunk to just 9 restaurants nationwide after previously boasting over 100.
