Cara Delevingne took her front-row seat at Tom Ford’s Paris Fashion Week show Wednesday night in a bare-chested reboot of a red carpet classic.
Her purple velvet pantsuit (worn sans shirt) called to mind Gwyneth Paltrow’s 1996 MTV VMAs look, a crimson velvet two-piece Ford designed during his Gucci days.
Delevingne, 34, accented the plunging ensemble with pops of red — a burgundy clutch and pointed-toe pumps, plus a cherry red belt and manicure. She wore her hair swept into an updo with curtain bangs and finished with green-tinted glasses.
Paltrow, now 54, styled the original suit with a pale blue satin shirt left open at the collar and coordinating scarlet platform heels.
Alessandro Michele resurrected the design 25 years later for Gucci’s 100th anniversary collection, sharpening the lapels and widening the leg.

The Goop founder slipped into Michele’s take for the brand’s Love Parade show on Hollywood Boulevard in November 2021, styled with a near-identical blue button-down.
“Beautiful tailoring never goes out of style,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, crediting “the master” Ford with the original she “borrowed in 1996.”
Delevingne’s rock-n-roll rework — hers designed by Haider Ackermann, who took the reins at Tom Ford in 2024 — is fitting given her path as a burgeoning musician.
The multihyphenate star released her debut album, “Not Normal,” on Sept. 25, and last week made her late-night performance debut on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
She also cameos in Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” music video, which premiered during Sunday’s MTV VMAs — 30 years after Paltrow’s velvet moment at the same awards show.
