Make California Post a Preferred Source 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is putting the NFL on notice this season.
Purdy is tied for the league lead with nine touchdown passes, and his 93.8 QBR is No. 1 in the NFL. Most important is that he has led San Francisco to a 3-0 record.
This success caused seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady to make a bold declaration during a recent segment on Fox.
After placing the 49ers in the top spot of his power rankings, Brady said, “Brock Purdy is playing as well as anybody. [He] should be considered in the tier-one QB discussions; at least, he is in my eyes.”
Brady was then asked whether Purdy is now an elite NFL quarterback and said, “It sure looks like it. [He’s] playing within the system, throwing the ball accurately, no negative plays, getting his team in and out of the right plays. I love the way that he’s managing every single game.”
As consistent as Purdy has been throughout his career, his unsexy playing style has made many media members reluctant to place him in the same quarterback tier that Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have inhabited for years.
But if Brady believes Purdy has proven enough to slot alongside those other star signal callers, it’s hard to argue with the GOAT.
