The AL Wild Card series continues tonight, Sept. 30 as the Yankees go for the series-clinching victory.
Last night, the Bronx Bombers won Game 1, 9-0, largely thanks to designated hitter Ben Rice’s huge night. Rice had four hits and six RBIs in the win, which he capped off with an eighth-inning grand slam.
“I’ll remember getting a ‘W’ versus the Red Sox — there’s nothing better than that,” Rice said after the game. “I’ll remember Cam [Schlittler, who struck out 10 over 6 1/3 scoreless innings] going out there and just being lights out, like he always is. I’ll remember the atmosphere. It was just an awesome night.”
Tonight, Max Fried will be on the mound as the Yankees try for the sweep.
If the Yankees win tonight, they’ll advance into the ALDS and head to Tropicana Field for a best-of-five series against the Tampa Bay Rays, who finished atop the AL East and finished the regular season with the best record in the league (98-64).
