Getty Images Keyshawn Hall, the high-scoring Auburn transfer who committed to play for St. John’s in late August, is suing the NCAA for a fifth year of eligibility, according to a suit filed in Queens Supreme Court.
Hall is seeking injunctive relief from the court to play for the Red Storm this coming season. Hall is part of the 2022 high school class the NCAA declined to grandfather in for its new eligibility rule that granted players five years of eligibility.
Hall’s attorney argues that the NCAA changing the eligibility rule and not including the 2022 class was a breach of contract.
“The NCAA has stated that the revised model is effective for the academic year beginning August 1, 2026. The 2026-27 season begins after that date,” the suit reads. “Applying the revised model to the 2026-27 season is therefore prospective, not retroactive. On the face of the rule, every student-athlete within five years of initial full-time enrollment, and who was 19 or younger when he enrolled, is eligible for 2026-27.
