The powerful nor’easter that pummeled New York over the weekend may have caused havoc — but it also brought some heartwarming news.
Hungry Big Apple residents were given an incredible gift when tons of food that was supposed to cater the star-studded Global Citizen Festival in Central Park on Saturday was donated to God’s Love We Deliver, a charity that helps feed critically ill New Yorkers.
The annual fundraising concert — which was supposed to be hosted by actor Hugh Jackman and feature performances by acts including Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean — was canned after being on a collision course with the storm.

Real estate maven Greg Williamson, founder of Love Rocks NYC, the annual benefit concert that has raised over $70 million for God’s Love We Deliver, told The Post that he received an unexpected call on Friday morning.
It was from David Beame, one of the producers at the Global Citizen Festival.
“He said that they had food for thousands of people, and the last thing they wanted was for any of it to go to waste,” Williamson shared. “He asked me about God’s Love and if they could help.”
Williamson called God’s Love We Deliver, and they immediately got to work rescuing the tons of food that otherwise could have gone to waste.
Founded in 1985, at the height of the AIDS pandemic, God’s Love delivers medically tailored meals to thousands of New Yorkers who are too sick to cook and shop for themselves, free of charge.

Global Citizen Festival, which started in 2012, is an annual concert held in Central Park each September to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly. The event raises money and awareness for climate change and global poverty.

Williamson, himself, is also a prolific fundraiser, having co-founded Love Rocks NYC.
The annual charity rock benefit is held at the Beacon Theater, with this year’s lineup including Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Mary J. Blige, Linda Perry, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, and Susanna Hoffs.
The Douglas Elliman honcho, who also co-founded Soho Sessions, was thrilled it all worked out.
“It was a very cool moment where great people and great organizations came together to help New York City,” he said.
