On Saturday, Oct. 3, Matthew Schaefer’s club will play their first home game of the 2026-27 season at Belmont Park’s UBS Arena against Jack Hughes’ New Jersey Devils.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on seats for the home opener was $97 including fees on Vivid Seats.
Coming into the season, The Post is cautiously optimistic about the up-and-coming Islanders who went 35-35-12 last year.
“As long as Ilya Sorokin and Matthew Schaefer are part of the picture, you can squint and see a path to competitiveness,” The Post noted in a robust season preview.
“A full season of Pete DeBoer behind the bench is another reason to believe…DeBoer has a proven history of creating improvement in Year 1, and in getting his teams to the playoffs, though a Stanley Cup title has eluded him. He’s overhauled the defensive systems and power play, and seems to have a good theory of how to win with a roster that is, ultimately, flawed. If they’re in the playoff hunt, he’ll be in the Jack Adams conversation.”
Other notable tilts for the Isles at UBS this year include showdowns with Connor McDavid’s Oilers (Oct. 31), Igor Shesterkin’s Rangers (Dec. 20), Alex Ovechkin’s Capitals (Dec. 30), Sidney Crosby’s Penguins (March 7, 2027) and Rasmus Dahlin’s Sabres (March 21, 2027).
In regards to their home opener opponents, Post reporter Michael Leboff added that the Devils “should not only be a playoff contender, but…should also harbor hopes of winning the Metropolitan Division.”
