While the wait for book four in Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series continues, a new novella set in the Empyrean world — “Threshing Day” — hit shelves today.
In “Fourth Wing,” the Basgiath War College tradition known as threshing — the day that students must bond with a dragon — is depicted from the point of view of protagonist Violet Sorrengail. “Threshing Day” follows that same fateful day through the point of view of 13 existing, familiar characters.
At threshing, Violet bonded with dragons Tairn and Andarna. “Threshing Day” allows readers to see how it went for other characters in “Fourth Wing.”
As is often the case with new releases, library waitlists are already piling up. Per Libby, the library e-book reading app, the Brooklyn Public Library has a 21-week wait with over 900 people waiting for just 91 copies. The New York Public Library doesn’t currently have e-copies available at all.
The wait to buy the book brand new is also long. Since selling out of preorders on Amazon, hardcover copies won’t begin shipping for another two weeks. Kindle books become available automatically, but there’s another instant way to read “Threshing Day” that won’t cost you anything: Audible.
