Make California Post a Preferred Source Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh did not mince words about his starting quarterback’s performance this season.
Harbaugh spoke with the media on Monday, one day after Los Angeles fell to 0-3 on the season, and was asked about Justin Herbert’s decision-making.
“Be better. Be better. And that drives Justin, that drives me, that drives his position coach, that drives Mike, the coordinator. I mean, drives us all,” Harbaugh said, per ESPN’s Kris Rhim.
Herbert has underperformed this season for the still winless Chargers. He has thrown four interceptions and just three touchdown passes and has a brutal 27.4 quarterback rating through three games.
One of these interceptions came during a crucial possession in the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Herbert threw a ball in the end zone that was picked off with ease by C.J. Gardner-Johnson when Los Angeles was winning 13-10. Tom Brady was in the broadcast booth and called the pass a “meatball sub”.
The Bills scored what ended up being the game-winning touchdown in their ensuing drive.
Herbert clapped back about a question regarding whether there was “vocal leadership” in the Chargers’ locker room last week.
At least nobody can deny that Harbaugh is willing to be vocal when calling his star players out.
