Make California Post a Preferred Source A California food company has issued a mass recall of one of its most popular products after a TikTok user allegedly found a dead mouse floating in her jar of peperoncinis.
Mezzetta announced a voluntary recall of their Golden Creek Peperoncini (Medium Heat) after a TikTok user posted two viral videos showing a potential pest inside the product’s 32-ounce jar.
“That’s why they’re in clear jars. You always have to check for dead mice before buying,” one user commented on one of the videos.
“thats literally the only good brand for pickled peppers im SICK,” another person said.
Following the viral videos, Mezzetta issued a recall of the 32-ounce product and contacted the consumer to quickly investigate the situation, according to an FDA announcement made on Saturday.
“We have requested to retrieve and examine the product involved in the original consumer report and are reviewing the relevant production, sanitation and food-safety records as part of our ongoing investigation,” the FDA wrote.
“We immediately took action to identify where the product was distributed and worked with affected customers to isolate and remove it from sale. As our investigation continues, we’ll take other appropriate steps as needed,” the agency added on.
No illnesses or injuries have been reported at the time of the announcement.
This comes as another California based company was forced to pull their products. Following a series of E. coli cases that occurred across nine states, the FDA recalled four different types of raw milk cheese produced by Sierra Nevada Graziers this month.
Nearly 2,000 products –– like Cheerios, Skittles and Pringles –– were also recalled on December 2025 after the FDA discovered rodent and bird contamination at a distribution facility.
Mezzetta is based out of American Canyon in the Napa Valley region. The food manufacturing company specializes in distributing goods such as olives, pickled vegetables and even pasta sauces.
