‘The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Says The American People Are “Cannon Fodder” To Politicians Who “Don’t Care” About Them: “It’s How They Also Treat Our Vets”

Whoopi Goldberg condemned politicians who consider Americans as “cannon fodder” on The View.

In an episode entirely dedicated to Hot Topics, Goldberg sounded off on Senator Lindsey Graham‘s rhetoric around U.S. military efforts in other countries like Cuba.

“First of all, who in your family is going to do all this fighting?” Goldberg asked. “I just want to be clear about this, Lindsey. You’re throwing the lives around of people’s fathers, and sons, and brothers. Where’s your contribution?”

Sunny Hostin said how Graham will cite his experience as a lawyer in the Air Force Reserve, serving as a Judge Advocate General officer. Guest co-host Sheryl Underwood said she doesn’t “know this Lindsey Graham,” but rather she knows the Lindsey Graham who “was friends with the great John McCain.”

“And I think Meghan McCain was absolutely right to tell him, ‘You need to shut up right now, because you are talking outside of your neck,'” she added, referring to Meghan’s recent post about Graham.

Underwood, who was in the Air Force Reserve, said Graham “has never had this kind of power” being “adjacent to what Trump is flexing on.”

“But I think that he really needs to understand you can’t be Billy Badass on Trump because it’s not going to go well for the country,” she explained. “And we can’t fight all these wars on all these different fronts because we’re going to lose.”

Sara Haines noted how “they’re talking about war like a video game,” highlighting “war hype videos” and how they lead to a loss of “trust” and “faith” in the U.S.’s actions.

Hostin agreed, “These are real lives.”

Haines argued that being in a country where an active war is taking place is an unforgettable “trauma,” and that no matter who is on the other end, “you should have a gut-wrenching feeling that that was really hard and that was awful.”

Goldberg countered, “Well they don’t have that feeling because to them, we’re cannon fodder. They don’t care. It’s how they also treat our vets. It tells you a lot. You’ve heard him talk about vets. You’ve heard what he’s saying.”

The View‘s outro music began to play amid Goldberg’s impassioned argument, prompting her to tease, “Already?”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
