Make New York Post a Preferred Source A former NFL top-10 pick — and infamous Jets bust — now has a new home.
Guard Mekhi Becton worked out for the Packers on Monday morning and is now expected to sign with the team’s practice squad, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported.
Becton was released by the Chargers in March after inking a two-year, $20 million contract with the team in 2025, and he started 14 games last season.
Becton was the Eagles’ starting right guard during their run to the Super Bowl the year prior after making the move over from tackle.
The Jets selected Becton 11th overall in the 2020 draft out of Louisville.
His four years with the Jets were riddled with injuries and he only appeared in one game across 2021 and 2022.
Fowler reported that Becton is healthy and the Packers were looking for reinforcements on their offensive line.
The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reported that Becton played through a labrum issue in his shoulder that he got surgery for in the offseason, but he is now healthy.
Many Eagles fans were calling for a reunion with Becton as their offensive line also appears to need some insurance, especially after Landon Dickerson was placed on injured reserve after Week 1 with a bone bruise in his right knee.
Jordan Schultz reported that the Steelers also showed interest in Becton as they look to protect Aaron Rodgers in his final season.
Becton, who is 6-foot-7 and down to 345 pounds, has experience at left tackle, right guard and right tackle.
The Packers have also added Cordell Volson and Laken Tomlinson in an effort to add to an offensive line that has had a lackluster start to the 2026 season.
