Mango The Issue: Hannah Gann, a white Jewish woman, apologizes after pretending to be a black Palestinian. Hannah Gann is what psychiatrists would refer to as an “as-if personality,” acting as if the persona she adopted was her true self (“Liar’s ‘mosquerade,’ ” Sept. 24).
When I read about her, I went from being angry to having compassion for her. I imagine she has a great deal of self-hate and rage. Now she has to deal with the embarrassment of being liar and a phony.
When a lucky young woman ditches her privilege to virtue-signal an ideology that is counter to her upbringing, it is obvious she suffers low self-esteem. What a pity that her parents were blind to this psychosocial flaw. Gann and her parents are an embarrassment to the Jewish people.
Hannah Gann, the pretend-Palestinian, is a fraud — darkening her skin and authoring a “daughter of oppression” backstory to join the downtrodden.
But with relatives living in Israel, she is probably more Palestinian than the hundreds of thousands of Muslims who — after Zionists built a thriving economy in the ruins of the Ottoman Empire — migrated to what is now Israel and then sought to claim it for themselves.
The Philadelphia teachers union likely knew Gann was a fraud, but went along with it anyway because being a black Palestinian is the new radical chic.
What’s worse: a woke Jewish woman posing as a Palestinian who hates Israel — or Sen. Chuck Schumer, who is such a coward that he can’t bring himself to criticize the antisemites and Israel-haters in his own Democratic Party?
US District Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, made the right call in stopping President Trump’s ban (“O tried to block out Fox,” Sept. 21).
Freedom of the press is enshrined in the First Amendment. This applies to Trump’s impetuous decision to ban specific outlets from covering him.
I won’t be surprised if Judge Kelly’s decision is appealed — talk about a frivolous lawsuit.
The other networks boycotted the White House in support of CNN, etc. They should also join to boycott trials like those of Luigi Mangione and Lindsay Clancy — and stop making martyrs out of killers. The manic groups that follow these killers will dissipate if there are no cameras to pander to.
This world has turned upside down in terms of common decency because of the news coverage. The news is not the solution. It is the problem.
CNN, MSNow and Politico are not the last of President Trump’s press ban. He is threatening more news organizations who criticize him — including The New York Times and Washington Post — which will be next.
Why? Because demagogues like Trump want to prevent the media from holding them accountable.
Trump banned three news outlets from White House new conferences. But President Joe Biden went as long as eight months at a time avoiding press conferences — banning all reporters from covering him.
