Make New York Post a Preferred Source Joey Porter Jr. still hasn’t played this season, but he could be on the move from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions are among the teams that have asked the Steelers about acquiring the cornerback.
Despite Porter being out the first two weeks of the season — and listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals — as he works his way back from a back injury, the Steelers would still want a “strong compensation package” if they did trade him.
Complicating matters further is that Porter is also looking for a new contract and the team does not give out extensions during the season.
Pro Football Talk reported the Steelers may be looking for a first-round pick or a second-round pick, plus a third-round pick.
Porter, 26, is in his fourth season after being picked by Pittsburgh out of Penn State in the second round of the 2023 draft.
Dallas is reportedly interested in Porter as part of their new-look defense that has been bolstered by trades, as well as the selection of safety Caleb Downs.
As for Detroit, their defense has allowed the second-most passing yards in the league heading into this week and is dealing with injuries to safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, as well as cornerback Avonte Maddox, who is sidelined for the season due to a foot injury.
The league trade deadline is the Tuesday after Week 9, so there is still time for the Steelers to move Porter.
Last year, the Jets got a pair of first-round picks, as well as WR Adonai Mitchell, in exchange for star CB Sauce Gardner, but the Steelers are almost certain to get a lesser package than that
