When Seattle and Washington meet at Northwest Stadium this afternoon, Sam Darnold will return for the 2026 Super Bowl champions after suffering an injury in Week 1, while Marcus Mariota is getting the nod for the home team following the dislocation of Jayden Daniels’ left elbow.
In Darnold’s place, backup Drew Lock has excelled, leading the Seahawks to a pair of impressive wins over the Patriots and Cardinals in their first two games.
As for Washington, they’ve had a rougher go in Weeks 1 and 2. To kick the season off, they lost a 24-22 heartbreaker to the Eagles. Then, the following week, Daniels went down in their rough showing against the Cowboys.
Today, in their home opener, oddsmakers project the Seahawks to have a 7.5-point edge.
“We have a lot of confidence in Marcus [Mariota] heading into this game,” Washington head coach Dan Quinn said.
Captains Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, Frankie Luvu, Jeremy Reaves, and Tress Way echoed that sentiment and made Mariota the Commanders’ sixth captain ahead of the contest.
