What Casey Wasserman’s agency rebrand means for his media empire

Getty Images The first step in the sale of Casey Wasserman’s eponymous sports and entertainment empire took place on Monday with a corporate rebranding and an assist from a digital eraser. Wasserman, as it was known 24 hours ago, is now called The Team and the company’s new website has been scrubbed of any mention or photos of its embattled 51-year old founder.

Last month, Wasserman, who is also the head of the LA28 Olympic Committee, agreed to sell the talent agency he founded in 1998 after he became embroiled in a scandal centering on racy emails he sent back in 2003 to Jeffrey Epstein’s close associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.

Over the past few weeks, suitors including CAA, WME, UTA and Range among others have been getting bids together to make a run at The Team. The key assets include management firm Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Wasserman’s music vertical which counts Coldplay and Kendrick Lamar as clients.

The crown jewel, however, is Wasserman’s sports agency and brand consultancy business which accounts for the lion’s share of the roughly $200 million in EBITDA that his company pulls in annually, according to sources. Investment bank Moelis & Company is handling the sale, and is aiming to sell the entire company and avoid selling off individual assets.
