Add The California Post on Google It’s only been two games into the season, but the Los Angeles Chargers are going through a rough patch. At least their offense is.
Quarterback Justin Herbert was asked after practice on Wednesday if getting wide receiver Quentin Johnston more involved would be a way to fix their struggles — even though he believes Johnston is already heavily involved.
“I think Mike [McDaniel] has already done a good job in trying to get him involved. I think he’s got a bunch of targets in ways to get him the ball in space,” Herbert said. “But we can always do a better job in getting him the ball and making sure he’s doing something special with it.”
As Herbert said, the Chargers have been doing their best to find a way for Johnston to become involved in their offense even though he has 10 targets for the season. Unfortunately, only three of them were caught.
It’s been four years since the Chargers selected Johnston in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he has all the measurables to make himself an elite deep threat in the league. But dropping the ball has been his biggest flaw.

According to Fox Sports, Johnston has had 13 drops in his career, including in 2024 when he had a career high of seven and a career high in receptions of 55.
Aside from finding ways to get Johnston involved, the Chargers’ flaws persist all around the offense.
Last season, the Chargers offense was considered average at best. The team brought McDaniel in to be the new offensive coordinator and help the team get past their struggles in the postseason, after their offense scored only three points in their Wild Card loss to the New England Patriots.
So far, the offense appears to have taken a step back.
Los Angeles ranks 29th in the league for points, averaging 14 per game, and is also 22nd in total yards [289].
Herbert has also taken a step back as his completion percentage is down to 59.3 and ranks 31st in the league in QBR [28.7], just ahead of Cooper Rush [5.2] of the Atlanta Falcons, who was benched in the third quarter last week.
