Add The New York Post on Google Last year, my social media feed was filled with the vibration plate trend.
It seemed like a plethora of TikTokers and influencers were hopping on their boards and talking about all the purported benefits, from improved circulation and lymphatic drainage to core strengthening and more.
Admittedly, it all sounded a bit too good to be true. What, exactly, could hopping on a little vibrating board for a few minutes a day actually do to my body? As a health and wellness writer who tests tons of viral workout gear, supplements and more, I’m not opposed to trying anything once. And since these boards have actually been around for decades, I figured it was only fair to give one a shot.
I ended up trying the LifePro Waver — a slightly larger, pricier version. But on Amazon, you can find similar models for under $100.The AXV Vibration Plate, for example, is marked down to just $89 ahead of October Prime Day, which kicks off on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7. Users rave that this board isn’t just compact and easy to use, but seriously effective.
And now that I’ve tested out the whole-body vibration trend myself, I can confirm that there are some impressive benefits.
Nonetheless, I started my daily vibration sessions skeptical — and at first, it took some getting used to. The rapid vibration rattles through the body, increasing blood flow and nerve stimulation. It can also cause a minor release of histamine, which can make it tingly and even feel a little itchy.
But after a few sessions, I started noticing some benefits.
My body felt more relaxed, my muscles felt less tight, and after a tough workout, the vibration session seemed to leave me noticeably less sore. And my mother, who has sciatica, also tried out the board and found that it really helped reduce her back pain and muscle cramps.
The research seems to back what she had discovered. A 2021 study found that older adults who incorporated whole-body vibration (WBV) training into their routine saw significant improvements in lower-body strength and overall physical performance. The researchers also concluded that WBV is a safe alternative to other strengthening workouts.
Of course, it’s still important to consult a physician prior to use, especially if you have any preexisting conditions. Still, considering how simple these boards are to use, and the discounted price ahead of Prime Day, I still recommend it to anyone looking for a piece of gear that offers wide-ranging benefits from stress relief to muscle strengthening.
