2-MIN READ2-MINSimpson CheungPublished: 2:24pm, 24 Sep 2026Updated: 2:25pm, 24 Sep 2026Hong Kong will introduce security arrangements, including contingency plans for potential terrorist attacks, for the coming Apec meeting to ensure it is held safely and smoothly while minimising disruption to residents’ daily lives, the security chief has said.
The Apec Finance Ministers’ Meeting will be held in the city for the first time on October 20 and 21, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
About 500 guests, including finance ministers and senior officials from the 21 Apec member economies, as well as representatives of international organisations, are expected to attend.
“Many ministerial-level officials will be attending, so we must safeguard hotel security, venue security and transport arrangements for their travel to and from meetings,” Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung told lawmakers at a security panel on Thursday.
