Add The New York Post on Google John Harbaugh is open to adding a veteran quarterback following the news that Jaxson Dart’s season is done before it really kicked into gear.
Dart’s injury has upended the Giants’ season only two weeks in and now puts Jameis Winston in the starter role, with Jake Haener moving up from the practice squad to serve as his backup.
But Harbaugh welcomed the idea of adding reinforcements at the QB position.
“You know, I think I would probably,’’ he said about adding a veteran, “but you’ve kind of got to go with what’s available as well. And you never know, if a younger guy becomes available that’s interesting, that would fit — and I think we’re looking at all that.’’
The Giants head coach, only two games into his tenure in New York, said, “All options are open right now,” when the idea of trading for a quarterback came up.
In terms of free agent options, as The Post’s Paul Schwartz noted, veteran Jimmy Garoppolo is one of the first names to come to mind for the Giants.
Garoppolo has spent 12 years in the NFL and led the 49ers to a Super Bowl in 2019. He has a 43-21 record as a starter and has backed up Matthew Stafford with the Rams for the past two seasons.

The Giants saw their good start to the season quickly disappear on Monday night as the Rams rolled through them and they lost Dart early in the game.

“Yeah, it’s a big loss for sure,’’ Harbaugh said about the situation with Dart. “I mean, it’s your starting quarterback. It’s a tough loss.’’
