With $114 million receiver Alec Pierce reinjuring his surgically repaired left heel, Indianapolis is signing Darius Slayton, whom the Giants cut before the start of the season following seven seasons.
Jones and Slayton were part of the same Giants draft class in 2019 and were teammates for parts of six seasons before Jones was cut during the 2024 campaign.
Slayton, 29, had a solid run as a fifth-round pick, accruing 4,435 yards and 22 touchdowns, and he could help a Colts team that suddenly has major questions at wide receiver.
Pierce is avoided surgery and hopes to return by midseason after rehab, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
Veteran Keenan Allen, meanwhile, is likely facing a suspension after his drunk driving arrest, though the NFL has yet to discipline the six-time Pro Bowler.
He had one catch for 5 yards on five targets in the Colts’ 33-30 overtime loss to the Chiefs on Sunday night.
Josh Downs led Indianapolis in catches (seven), yards (72) and targets (nine) in the loss.
Laquon Treadwell had three catches on three targets for 61 yards, while tight end Tyler Warren had six catches for 21 yards and a touchdown.
Running back Jonathan Taylor added four catches for 40 yards.
Jones finished 22 for 31 with 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The 29-year-old quarterback’s resurgent 2025 season ended early with a torn Achilles, though he recovered in time for Week 1.
In 13 games last season, Jones completed a career-high 68 percent of his passes with 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions, adding five rushing touchdowns.
Urgency is building in Indianapolis as the Colts are 0-2 to start the season.
They’ll host a similarly disappointing 0-2 Texans team in Week 3 in what will be a crucial division matchup.
