The death on Sunday of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and entrepreneur Rande Gerber, is being investigated as a suspected overdose, according to police.
Gerber died at a rehabilitation facility, Los Angeles county medical examiner records show. An autopsy was performed, but more testing was required before investigators could give a cause of death for Gerber, which the medical examiner did not immediately do.
A news release issued later by the Santa Monica police department then said the agency was investigating his death as a suspected overdose.
Presley, who was his parents’ eldest child and brother of model Kaia Gerber, had spoken often of his mental health and long-term addiction struggles. On the podcast Studio 22 in 2023, he said he hoped sharing details about his struggles would help others coping with mental health difficulties.
“That’s really what I want to do: help people, whether you’re depressed, you’re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body,” Presley said. “I mean it could be anything, and there’s no judgment.”
His death was first confirmed by Allie Jenkins, a representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber. “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” Jenkins said in an email.
Born in California in 1999, Presley was signed by IMG Models at age 15, making his runway debut in 2016 for Moschino’s Resort show in Los Angeles. He worked with brands including Celine, Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Pepsi.
