Caleb Williams’ fantasy football absence can be survived — but it won’t be easy

Fantasy Insanity Drew Loftis Caleb Williams’ fantasy football absence can be survived — but it won’t be easy By Drew Loftis Published Sep. 21, 2026, 6:22 p.m. ET Caleb Williams #18 of the Chicago Bears reacts against the Minnesota Vikings. Getty Images We subscribe to the long-held method of delivering bad news as worse news to soften the blow. You know, like: Hey Wilhelm, Klaus burned your house down. … Nah, just kidding. But we did see him and your wife Rebecca together looking a little too cozy.

That is some pretty bad news hidden in a worse facade. After all, at least you still have a place to sleep. Besides, you aren’t even sure Rebecca is cheating on you. Sure it looks bad, and you don’t trust Klaus, but something that appears scary at first isn’t always as scary as it seems.

For example, let’s run a real-world test directed at those of you who have Caleb Williams on your fantasy rosters. Here goes: Caleb left Sunday’s game screaming in agony after a noncontact injury. … But hey, Tom Pelissero reported Monday that Williams avoided major injury and the team hasn’t even ruled him out for Week 3.

That sounds more like good news, right? Until you realize, before the “really bad news” part of this, you had zero worries about whether Williams would play this week, or miss any time.
