Kelly, who died following a car crash in 1982 at the age of 52, not only had one of the most iconic wardrobes of her time, but became the face of an elegant look that has stood the test of generations that have come since.
And Alexandra, 27, proved her closet featured enduring pieces, slipping into a golden beaded gown that the Princess of Monaco wore in 1962.
“Yellow mood in archival Givenchy 🌝,” she captioned the post on Instagram.
The sleeveless yellow silk gown features a scoop neck and slim silhouette that puddles at her feet in a train. With allover golden beading, the archival couture sparkles with every move.
Hubert de Givenchy and the late princess were not only collaborators in style, but also personal friends, which makes the re-wear all the more special.
“Hommage à la Princess Grace,” wrote one follower. Another agreed, “Wow, you just look like your grandmother in the yellow dress.”
Kelly wore the gown to the wedding of Prince of Spain Juan Carlos and Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark in Athens on May 14, 1962; the couple later went on to rule Spain.
Alexandra went minimal with the jewelry, adding a few gold bracelets and small pendant necklace — as well as her yellow diamond engagement ring to match.
Kelly, meanwhile, went all-out for the extravagant royal wedding, adding a sash, opera-length satin gloves, and lots of diamonds, pulling her golden hair into an extravagant updo.
Now that Alexandra is engaged, it remains to be seen if she’ll take bridal inspiration from her grandmother as well.
