Add The New York Post on Google The Giants’ 28-20 victory over the Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football” surprised everyone at MetLife Stadium, viewers at home and even Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
During a Friday appearance on Dallas sports radio station 105.3 The Fan, Jones gave an honest reaction to their narrow upset loss in the season opener.

“And I will tell you, they were better than we thought they were. I’m anxious to see how New York continues to play, but I really — combination of things,” the told the radio station. “We didn’t play as well as we should play and can, but they played better than I thought they could.”
In their first season-opening win since 2022, Big Blue managed to outshine a high-powered Cowboys offense featuring quarterback Dak Prescott and receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
Their success came from a strong start by Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo in their second year.
Dart completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, hooking up with offseason addition Isaiah Likely, a tight end and fellow John Harbaugh recruit, for two of those scores.
Skattebo was sharp coming back from an ankle injury that cut short his rookie year. He rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, even sticking the landing with a backflip after crossing the goal line.

Bill Kostroun for NY Post The Giants dominated upfront, gaining 165 yards on the ground and averaging 5.8 yards per play versus a revamped defense that Jones has praised this offseason.
Dallas’ season opener didn’t quite meet Jones’ expectations.
When asked, he attributed it to the team adjusting to new coaches and schemes.
Meanwhile, the Giants were able to succeed in a similar situation with a new head coach and offense crafted by coordinator Matt Nagy.
Looking ahead, the Giants aim to show that last Sunday wasn’t a fluke as they prepare for a Monday night showdown against the Rams.
Dallas is eager to bounce back against division rivals as they host the Commanders in the house that Jerry built: AT&T Stadium.
