But otherwise, and more realistically, the final 10 games of the regular season are about getting guys healthy, keeping guys healthy and evaluating the final bits of information and performance that will shape the 26-man roster they submit for a second straight AL wild-card series against the Red Sox (barring a collapse from the Rays, who now lead the Yankees by five games with 10 to play).
With three players currently on the injured list trying to work their way back in time for the start of the playoffs — and, they hope, Aaron Judge not joining that group after leaving Wednesday’s game early because of “right lower leg tightness” — plus the roster having to go from 28 in the regular season to 26 for the postseason, the Yankees will have plenty of decisions to make.
When they faced the Red Sox in last year’s AL wild-card series, the Yankees used a roster of 12 pitchers and 14 hitters, so we will assume that they go with the same composition this time around.
