Taipei donates coastguard vessel to Manila amid South China Sea tensions

As it faces off against Beijing in the region, Manila has been expanding its unofficial security cooperation with Taipei

Taiwanese media have linked the transfer to the Philippine-flagged BLINGNO.1, which is classified by commercial ship-tracking services as a law enforcement vessel. Initial reports identified it as the retired Lienchiang patrol ship, but the Liberty Times newspaper, citing naval enthusiasts’ comparison of the vessels’ bows, suggested it could instead be its sister ship, the Kinmen.
